“Alix has taught me so much about my scoliosis.
Learning how to adapt yoga to my specific curve enables me to do all yoga postures but with a specific ‘twist’. The mental image I now have of my back helps me move in ways beneficial to my back.
Best of all, Alix teaches with humor, knowledge, and compassion. Life is great now that I can practice yoga again!!
Scoliosis is no longer a burden; rather a gift.” –Carmen S

Alix Northup, Retreat Facilitator
Alix began her path of yoga as a teenager when her mom brought her to a yoga class as an alternative treatment for her scoliosis. The practice has stayed with her for over twenty years.
She draws from her own experience of finding balance in her body and mind to assist others on their own unique path of yoga and healing.
Having taught several local weekend retreats as well as international retreats in Nepal and Costa Rica, Alix believes in the importance of retreats.
Retreats provide an opportunity to go deeper into the practice and allow for more continuity of learning the modifications specific to scoliosis as well as allowing the nervous system to unwind deeper layers of held tension.
Alix is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level. She received her 200 hour training with Prananda Yoga in 2007, and recently completed 300 additional hours of training with Tias and Surya Little of Prajna Yoga based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Alix is certified as a Prajna SATYA teacher (Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement). SATYA is a somatic floor based practice developed by Tias Little that complements yoga.
She completed her Yoga for Scoliosis teacher certification through senior Iyengar teacher Elise Miller and continues to study yoga for backcare and scoliosis with Deborah Wolk from NYC.
